Jan Pulmann – Symplectic geometry behind the Feynman path integral
Abstract: Classical mechanics is naturally formulated using symplectic geometry, which is a coordinate-independent way to speak about positions and momenta. It was noticed in the 90’s that one can similarly describe the path integral formulation of quantum field theory; the main difference being that the momenta have opposite statistics. This goes under the name of Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism. I will present the basic ideas of Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism and some of my recent results on effective actions therein.
