The work of the KMPB is comprised of three missions:
Promotion of Junior Researchers
For PhD students and junior postdocs, it is crucial to actively attend workshops in their fields of specialization and network with a variety of researchers. Those working in the intersection between mathematics and physics may need to attend a larger number of relevant conferences. The KMPB supports junior researchers by offering lecture series and schools, and provides stipends for attending conferences and workshops.
International Science
The international guests of the KMPB breathe life into its mathematics and mathematical physics seminars and workshops. Short- and long-term visits are financially supported by the KMPB.
The KMPB also extends special support for Ukrainian students and scientists through its international visitor program and scientific collaboration.
The Film Forest: Mathematical Physics for the People
The Film Forest is an efficient tool for learning mathematical physics. It is a network of interlinked videos, organized much like trees in a forest. The most introductory concepts appear at the base of the trees. Learners can then make their way up the branches to finally reach higher-level mathematical physics concepts at the tops of the trees.
These videos will be short: less than 8 min long each. That is, we would like to avoid overwhelming viewers with multiple new concepts. The content is meant to be easily absorbed.
The Film Forest is both efficient and participatory. Learners can choose a research concept they would like to understand at the top of a tree. From here, they will be shown the set of underlying prerequisite videos they need to work through in order to fully understand that complex topic.
Our ultimate goal with the Film Forest is to help people overcome the barriers that keep them from witnessing the beauty of mathematics and physics.
