Pan-African STM Cinema Competition 2024

As a part of our mission for international science and science communication, the Kolleg Mathematik Physik Berlin has sponsored the Pan-African STM Cinema Competition.

The Pan-African STM Cinema Competition (PASTMCC) is an initiative that encourages participants to create short explainer videos on topics in science, technology, or mathematics. Open to individuals over 13 years old from African countries, the competition offers up to €7,000 in prize money, with €1,000 for the best entries. Participants must submit their videos on YouTube, accompanied by signed approval from two experts in the respective field. The competition aims to promote clear and creative science communication, with additional prizes for videos in multiple African languages. Submissions are due by October 30, 2024.

PhD Schools

The KMPB supports young researchers in the intersection of mathematics and physics by sponsoring a one-week program for PhD students. The school is organised by PhD students at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

This year’s topic is, D-branes in Physics and Mathematics, taking place from September 22 to 26, 2025. The courses will be held by Dr. Matilda Delgado, Prof. Dr. Ailsa Keating, Prof. Dr. Albrecht Klemm, and Prof. Dr. Johannes Walcher.

Collaboration and Exchange with Ukrainian Researchers

Through workshops organized by the KMPB and researchers in Ukraine, we would like to explore possibilites of collaboration with Ukrainian mathematicians and mathematical physicists.

On March 4 to 6, 2025, we had our first KMPB-Ukraine workshop. Over the course of three days, 21 talks were presented by researchers in Ukraine and KMPB members. You can find the program here.
